Assumed Names – DBA
If you desire to conduct business under another legal name, other than your personal name, for sole proprietors, or business name, for Corporations and LLC’s, you will need to register a DBA with the appropriate agency. In order to publicly register a business name with either the state or local jurisdiction a Certificate of Assumed name or Trade name must be filed. A DBA name is also called an assumed name, trade name, or fictitious business name.
DBAs enable sole proprietors to conduct business under a name other than their own personal name and enable corporations or LLCs to do business under a name other than that which is used on the company’s articles of formation.
